Daily Prayer - April 20, 2022

Today is the anniversary of the massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999.

Two students killed 12 of their fellow students and one teacher before killing themselves. There have been scores of school shootings since then.

Questions about why this is happening and what can be done to end gun violence in schools in the USA continue to haunt people there and around the world.

Lord,

it is hard to understand what would motivate young people to take the lives of others and then kill themselves.

We ask that laws may be passed that will prevent guns from getting into the hands of young people.

May young people, who often have good reasons to feel angry, hurt and disaffected, be helped to find healthy ways to deal with these issues so that they will not be tempted to turn to violence.

Amen
