Prayer for World Leaders

Background:
In the face of the threat posed by the coronavirus, leaders are faced with difficult decisions. They must balance the health and wellbeing of citizens with the need to keep the economic and social lives of people working well. If they lean more towards the health side of the equation, they will be criticised for ignoring the economy. If they opt to open economic activity, they will be criticised for putting lives at risk. These decisions must weigh heavily on those entrusted by the community to make them.
Prayer:
We pray for the leaders of nations in this time of trouble and distress.
Give them the wisdom needed to find the right balance. Let compassion be their guide.
Sustain them as they see the implications of their decisions played out for better or worse.
Give them the flexibility to change direction if change is necessary.
May we as citizens be committed to serve the common good and have the conviction to do what is necessary to protect ourselves, our neighbours, and the world from harm.
