Honest Prayer

The background:

In the light of what is going on in the world right now, I was taken by these questions posed by the leaders of congregations of women religious in the USA.

How are we, as women religious, to respond to the pandemic when we ourselves are the most vulnerable to it and our own sisters are falling ill and dying?"

How are we to respond to viral racism when we ourselves have been complicit in sustaining it?

How are we to respond to global warming when we ourselves are deeply implicated in the market economics that power it?

Prayer

I thank you, Lord, for the raw honesty of these questions and for the courage of these women in raising and facing them.

I ask for the same honesty about what faces me. I am often more conscious of my weaknesses and failures than of my gifts and strengths.

The challenges are daunting, the way is often dark, and resources limited but I am not alone. You are with me and so are many people who face similar challenges.

Together may we find a way through to the new life that is emerging at the very point where it seems to be breaking down.
