To mark Mission Sunday 2025, Fr. Sunil and Fr. John along with members of the Liturgy Group gathered the priests and women religious of Te Awakairangi Parish in Lower Hutt for an evening together. We often meet at other events and especially at funerals, but this was an opportunity for just this group to meet each other.
Along with Sunil and John, who are Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), there were 2 Columbans (Don and Pat). Four congregations of women religious were also present. They were the Mission Sisters (RNDM) with members Merle, Annette, Margaret and Patricia along with 2 novices from Myanmar, Monica and Rose; the Marist Sisters (SMSM) represented by Pauline Presentation Sisters (PVBM) Regina and Ruth as well as Barbara from the Little Sisters of the Assumption (LSA). Members of the liturgy group were also present both in the photo and in the background.
Some of the women religious spoke about their work at the various masses in the parish on Mission Sunday. The theme for this year was “Missionaries of Hope for all Peoples”. In our suffering world the earth itself and its people are crying out - like a dear yearning for running streams. These days at Mass we have been hearing from Paul’s letter to the Romans. Part of his message is that though sin abounds, grace abounds even more. This abundance of grace is the source of our hope.
