International Women's Day - 8th March

March 8 is designated as International Women’s Day. First celebrated in 1945 it has become a day to focus on the place of women in our world. Significant action for women’s rights and equality happened on this day. In 1884 Susan B Anthony called for a change to the US constitution to give women the right to vote. In 2018 5m Spanish women went on strike over issues like gender discrimination and the wage gap. In 2019 the US women’s soccer team filed a case for the right to equal pay.

Gracious God,

we give thanks that the call of women for change and equality has produced some good results.

But there is still a way to go.

Help us to embrace equality and continue to challenge gender stereotypes and call out discrimination.

We pray for an end to domestic violence and the creation of safe places for women to live and work.

Amen
